Governance & mission
- Dual governance model: operated as a digital commons by Droit.org (open assets and data governance) and by a dedicated operating company (Legal Data Space created 2025) backed by LegalTech founders and major corporates including Sopra Steria and Lexbase.
- Mission: deliver reliable, interoperable legal data and services built on open standards, open governance, and sovereignty‑by‑design.
Community & momentum
- 150+ organisations across five countries, including leading law firms (CMS Francis Lefebvre Avocats, Fidal, Deloitte Avocats), corporates (BPCE, SNCF, Allianz), professional bodies (CNB, ECLA, ELTA), and LegalTech scale‑ups (Doctrine, Jimini AI, Recital AI).
- The network collaborates to identify and prioritise legal AI and data sharing use cases, building shared assets that benefit providers, consumers, and authorities.
Key use cases
60 use cases
already mapped into Gen4Legal, the Legal Data Space’s agentic AI framework.
Focus areas:
compliance automation, contract lifecycle management, M&A workflows, and HR processes.
Technology platform
- The Visions startup provides core data space collaboration capabilities: connectors, federated catalogues/marketplaces, Rulebooks, and machine‑readable contracts.
- Personal‑data sharing via Prometheus‑X connectors; EDC connectors (via EONA‑X) ensure seamless interoperability with participants standardising on EDC connectors provided by Amadeus/EONA-X.
- Gen4Legal (built on the IAka by Sopra Steria) runs on OVHcloud infrastructure qualified SecNumCloud (France’s highest ANSSI security level).
- Beyond chat, autonomous AI agents and assistants plan and act to produce regulator‑grade outputs, orchestrating multi‑LLM, multi‑RAG, APIs, and tamper‑evident audit trails. A “policy‑in, data‑out” design enforces governance and full traceability.
What this enables
- Interoperability by default: semantic, technical, and policy alignment across organisations and authorities.
- Security & sovereignty: European cloud, audited controls, and verifiable execution.
- Time‑to‑compliance: reusable components and agents shorten cycles from weeks to hours.
- Open ecosystem: an extensible foundation for new legal‑data vproducts and automated legal services.

Status & roadmap
Build stage.
The Legal Data Space is in the build phase, with a live data-sharing collaboration platform and connectors already in place. It has identified multiple use cases and is expanding its community of legal-data providers. The next phase will consist in integrating Gen4Legal, the legal AI agentic framework, into the infrastructure and further develop AI powered use cases.
